Cairdeas was represented recently at a community ‘Speed Networking’ event in National Learning Network in Bray. This is a yearly event to bring local community groups and services together to help them establish links and look at ways of working together. It also allows each service to shared information about what they do to a varity of other services and people.
Ronan met with a number of new faces and shared the Cairdeas Clubhouse story. Already we have a guest speaker from the Road Safety Authority coming into the clubhouse in July as a result of the meeting. Ronan handed out lots of leaflets, posters and business cards and really got the word out, very important in the clubhouse as part of our ‘Feet on the Street’ initiative, which raises awareness of Cairdeas and clubhouse model and establishes firmly in the community.
There were also a couple of guest speakers at the event: Barry Brophy from UCD, who spoke about good presentation skills and the power of personal stories; and Dr Cat Hughes, who is making DCU the first autism-friendly universty in Ireland. Many thanks to Deborah Coughlan and the team in NLN for a great evening – and we made the local paper!
